I adore hosting. But most of all I love preparing and primping the guest-rooms for my company. When I invite friends over for a summer weekend at my Long Island casa I make sure that my guests not only feel "at home" but also feel as if they are on a mini-vacation at a boutique hotel minus the mini bar charges , room service bills and pay-per-view rip-off movies.

As soon as my guests arrive I love to give them the vibe that they have just checked into an exclusive bed and breakfast where the linens are made up of the highest quality Egyptian cotton, where clean towels are available daily, fresh flowers adorn the night tables and hot home-baked cookies are delivered to their guest-rooms promptly at 5pm accompanied by a cup of freshly brewed espresso.

Giving your weekend guests hotel quality service is easier than you think and doesn't require spending too much money. Surprisingly enough you most likely have the few things to help take your hosting skills to another level already in your home.

When hosting, always remember it's the smaller details that truly make the biggest difference.

Recently while shopping for new fresh guest goodies at my favorite local linen store I asked my friend Rachel Rosenberg owner and creative consultant of the fabulous linen, bath and accessory boutique Lagoon Linen located in Cedarhurst NY for her 5 Fab Tips on how to prepare the perfect guest bedroom. Here's what she had to say:

Rachel's 5 Fab Tips:

1.To make the bed inviting provide you're guests with the best quality sheets and down blanket within your budget.

2. Provide an extra blanket or throw in the room for their comfort. Guests may feel uncomfortable having to ask for more so provide one beforehand as an extra courtesy.

3. Fresh towels and/or robes are a MUST for your guests. Place them on the guest bed prior to their arrival. Its a small gesture that oozes thoughtfulness and consideration.

4. Provide water bottles and an inexpensive small fresh flower arrangement on the nightstand. These small details serve as a delicious treat for your guests while making the room enticing, inviting and cozy.

5. Lastly, Rosenberg "the bedroom decor guru" says she loves to send her guests home with a small gift such as individually wrapped soaps or a moisturizer gift set to really make them feel like 5 Star hotel royalty!

...and remember ladies it's easy to be a gracious house-guest but it takes someone fabulous to be a great host!

ZAC POSEN ON TARGET AND INTERIORS

Last night was like an episode straight out of Sex and the City…there was NYC as the back-drop, a fabulous cocktail party hosted by the fiercely talented designer Zac Posen, my date for the evening was my BFF and uber-chic furniture and artist extraordinaire Albert Leon Sultan and to top it off we met up with a group of glamour PR girls from FYI PR led by the infamous Miss Tammy Brook.

We were all out to celebrate fashion, design, interiors and exteriors. The night began at 16 West 21st. Posen’s new tres-chic designer apartment complex. With only 9 units available last night’s festivities were part cocktail party part open-house. Sultan of sultanchic.com was involved in the interior design wall finishes as well creating many of the apartments gorgeous custom furniture pieces.

In honor of the night and to show my Zac support I wore an adorable skirt from the Zac Posen for Target collection which received rave reviews and a “love the skirt” compliment directly from Zac himself.

All in all the night was fabulous, fun and topped off with a mouthwatering Truffle Mac & Cheese from the meatpacking district’s hot-spot & hangout STK.

The newly infamous “Madonna episode” of the hit FOX show Glee reminded me of why I love the Material Girl. You see, while the show’s stars belted out songs like Express Yourself and Borderline louder and shinier than Madge could herself hope for (don’t even get me started on how she forced out the high notes in Evita), I was struck with the realization that music is part of the “entertainment biz” for a reason…. That being entertainment! She might not croon like Celine or wave her hands up and down like Mariah but she has something that neither of them do and that is the ability to captivate you completely with who she is and also the ability to exude exactly how she is feeling in any given decade.

After years of prefabricated boy bands and bubblegum teen sex queens, like Brit Brit, the latest breakthrough stars are taking cue from the woman who pissed off Pepsi with her Like a Prayer video.
Enter Lady Gaga, a wacked-out pop sensation, who throws all convention to the waste side and prides herself on shocking her audience with an offstage persona as weird and cool as her onstage one. Clearly, she got the Madonna memo because even Beyonce, who favors being Bootylicious has now aligned herself with Gaga and is downright bizarre in their joint collaboration Telephone (if you haven’t seen the video, I suggest a few shots of vodka prior to watching…it might make for a better experience).
But girls aren’t the only ones listening to the Lucky Star lady. Up and coming singer JBrazil is making a name for himself with an irreverent sound that mixes genres and beats and he twists it up with an unapologetic attitude and geekalicious style. He loves his bowties and big, black Buddy Holly glasses And after years of Ricky Martin, sell-out alternative rockers, like Greenday and goodie-goodie Nick Lacheys, we are welcoming with open arms a guy true to his own identity.

Ok, so admit I bought the Glee “Power of Madonna” CD, but not because of the hokey cast (I do loveeeeeeeeeee Coach Sue Sylvester, played brilliantly by Jane Lynch). Rather, I’m all about paying homage to the woman who inspired me to Get into the Groove.

Attention all Gold-Diggers….gold is the new hot trend for Spring and forward. Once considered a total fashion faux-pas , woman were ditching gold like a plaque. Housekeeper-Less in Hewlett: Confessions of a Five Towns Desperate Houswife

Let me begin this blog with an introduction to the one and only RAYNA! Rayna has been in the Silber family tree for close to fifteen years now. She has been fired and re-hired dozens of times by my mother, myself and most recently my 7yr old son. This time, I THINK she's gone for good. I admit, though, there are seconds when I get pangs of missing-Rayna-moments considering our long and tumultuous time together.

In the years Rayna has been with my family she has helped move my parents from bad-ass Brooklyn to laid-back Lawrence. She has flown with me and my own family to Miami when we moved from NY, and happily single handily unpacked our boxes and suitcases while my kids and I frolicked on the beach. A few years later when we decided to move to a new apartment in Bal Harbor, she once again flew in from NYC and again unanimously unpacked all our stuff while we snuck away to Disneyland for 3 days (the sight of piles upon piles of cardboard boxes stacked endlessly around my apt gives me major Jap jitters!) And most recently , Rayna orchestrated my most latest move to the neighborhood i like to call "heavens waiting room" aka Hewlett, aka the Fifth most Fab town in Long Island .

After fifteen years of having Rayna around I admit I do occasionally miss her. But this last episode was different then the others. A few days into the latest “firing Rayna relapse” it dawned on me, WHY have someone else do something I can (eventually with alot of blood, sweat & tears) do BETTER?? Now this bold decision to take on my own household tasks obviously does not relate to the typical Long Island housewife who is pre-occupied with running multi-million dollar companies, lunching on Central Ave, shopping at 100% Kids and actually raising their own offspring, I completely understand they just don’t have the time!

But by going “housekeeper-less" I realized i will never again have to sit anxiously by the front door in a panic , cell phone in hand repeat dialing Rayna thinking "Shit , I'm having 20 people over for a BBQ, will she show up today like she promised or will she screw me and go M.I.A…again!? " I also realized I will never have to ask myself day after day WHY I can't find anything in my house...EVER! It was a housekeeping epiphany. I would never again have to play the horrific game of Housekeeper Hide and Seek. The game of Housekeeping Hide & Seek always began when Rayna would unknowingly HIDE (by hide I mean "put away" something and forget where she put it) and I would have to painstakingly attempt to SEEK it. The steps of the game are as follows:
•Step 1: start looking for missing item by rummaging through kitchen drawers and tearing apart closets.
•Step 2: start screaming out in an I'm-gonna-try-to-sound-calm-but-I'm-really-freaking-out-voice, “RAAAAAYYYYNNNNAAAAAAA! Where's my _____________!” (Fill in the blank: shoes, bag, dress, cell-phone, keys, kids , dogs, wallet, iPod, etc. etc. etc.)
•Step 3: Rayna responds with the typical “Missy I no understand!”
•Step 4: Try to describe the missing item with slower speech and creative hand motions. This step usually goes something like "Rayna, where's my I-POD? You know my IiiiiiPooooodddd?" ( I say it really slow because I think she'll understand it in long drawn out version a retarded act of ignorance, I know).
•Step 5: Proceed to the HAND motion portion of the game by making a square shape with your pointer fingers in an attempt to re-create an i-Pod for a visual clue
•Step 6: Continue on with a COLOR description of the i-Pod. For example tell her, "You know the BLACK thing," and since I failed Spanish class in high school I don’t have a damn clue how to say any colors in Spanish so point to the nearest black colored item for visual assistance (which in my case is usually my son Jack's kippah or my black range rover)
•Step 7: In a final attempt to describe the i-Pod (mind you I have 4 of them lying around the house at any given time, how they all simultaneously disappear is beyond me) I go on to give her my last clue. This time in the form of a verb , for example, "you know that thingy I listen to music on." I complete this step by busting out some lyrics in Spanish. A good song suggestion is Brazil 75's hit song "Calle Ocho".

After all that work, if all I get is a BLANK stare then I know the latest game of Housekeeper Hide & Seek is officially over and once again I LOST! Like any Jappy sore loser, I just throw my hands up in the air with frustration, force out a SMILE and simply say in a perfectly orchestrated voice "UCHHHHHH never mind I’ll find IT!!" while simultaneously grinning as if to makes her believe I am not angry/annoyed/frustrated and 30 minutes late to the gym for my Butt-Blasting class ! I then gracefully stomp away like a 10 yr old Pre-Bat-Mitzvahed bratty 5Th grader (mature, I know).

Some of you may or may not relate to this. If you do get what I'm saying I know you feel my pain. For those of you who don't relate and don't have the privilege of paying someone else to do your dirty work then kudos's to you. And for those of you who do have help but still can't relate to having a hopeless-helpless-housekeeper then apparently Mary Poppins must be working for u and consider yourselves lucky! (Just a small word of advice for the Mary Poppins set. Keep Her!! Even if she will work only 5 days,on NO no major secular holidays, on every other Shabbat, and comes 3hrs late because of her "English Language Class" (which I personally think is a housekeeper conspiracy to make us believe they're out learning English so they can better interact with us while secretly searching for another job with more pay, less days and older children)

With Rayna gone I have been forced to fend for myself. I've mastered laundry but not the task of actually putting it away- still working on that one. I've conquered the delightful task of loading and yes, unloading the dishwasher, and I put all groceries away including my massive Costco raids, which is NOT an easy task. I've even attempted to mop...ONCE.

To all those chucklers and to those who've already started the "let's see how long Esther will last” betting pools, I will openly admit that nothing is forever- not Rayna, not your perfect nanny, not your Mary Poppins , not your day help/only night help/only Saturday and Sunday help. I'll be the first to say that your right, I WON'T last mopping, sweeping and doing dirty dish washing and laundry folding. But I will say it feels damn good to know where my I-Pod, shoes, bag, keys, cell phone and everything else I always seem to misplace are...AT least until Rayna shows up again!

Insider info on this Falls Foodie Trend...Tzaziki is the NEW Hummas!

If brown is the new black and ballet flats are the new fall must-have pumps then tzatziki is the NEW hummus! Since as far back as I can remember I've been dipping and spreading the creamy-chickpea based hummus on just about everything. My pita bread bathed in it, my crackers dipped in it, my challah bread got blessed before it, and my kibbehs, cigars and lechmagens got loved by it. Until recently, hummus was my favorite foodie companion, but once I tasted tzatziki there was no turning back. I'm not quite sure the exact moment when tzatziki tickled my taste buds, but I know it was sometime early this past summer.

I like to consider myself well traveled, I've visited most major countries and cities around the world at least once in my life, (of course I consider a city "major" when there's a CHANEL Flagship store within a mile radius of my hotel, but then again it's all relative). I had backpacked all through Europe, starting from Antwerp, Belgium to picture perfect Positano, all during the summer of my 18th birthday! (ok that was a lie i actually drove through europe with my hot-euro-quad-linguial boyfriend the summer of my 18th b-day..sorry dad!). With all this country hopping, I would have thought I discover tzatziki ages ago, but I guess there's a time and a place for everything- my time was summer 2009, the place still in question. Thinking back it was either in my kitchen, tzatziki handmade by an Albanian friend of mine or at Liman, the Turkish-Greek restaurant in good old Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. But regardless, once I tasted it, it was love at first bite.

Tzatziki is a very common & traditional Greek “meze” or appetizer, and it's usually served as a side dish to Gyro's, lamb or kebab's. I personally LOVE it served with a big freshly made chopped Greek salad accompanied by piping hot, straight-from-the-oven, freshly baked focaccia or pita bread.
Tzatziki is creamy, cool, crunchy and tangy, and it's absolutely tantalizingly deliciously refreshing and orgasmically amazing. YES people, it is THAT good when MADE right!

Homemade is the BEST way to go when eating tzatziki. The second best way to experience this delicious meze is at a traditional Greek, Turkish or Mediterranean restaurant where the chef knows his stuff. By traditional I expect a Greek chef in Greek restaurant, a fat jolly Italian cook in an Italian restaurant or a spicy Israeli chef in an Israeli restaurant. You get my point- NO IMPOSTERS, please! Numero Uno on my list, without a doubt, is TURQUOISE restaurant in Tel-Aviv. However, if you have no plans on heading out to Israel anytime soon, second best is right here in BK. Liman Restaurant makes a killer rendition of the Greek delicacy worthy of the trip to the bay. Lastly, if you insist on BUYING already made tzatziki, HANNAH, the brand carried by COSTCO, is hands down the best! Sabra's version SUCKS as do all the ones I've tasted from TRADER JOE's!! Any recipe that requires only 4 main fresh ingredients should NOT have strange items listed in the back of the container, yuck!

So whether you choose to get creative in the kitchen and make your own homemade Jajik (the Turkish way to pronounce it) or head out for a meal at your local Mediterranean hot spot, I hope you ENJOY tzatziki as much as I do!

Recipe for: Tzatziki , τζατζίκι, pronounced dza-DZEE-kee

Tzatziki is traditionally served as an appetizer and can be left on the table as an accompaniment to foods throughout the meal. The key to great tzatziki is the thick creamy texture that allows it to be eaten alone, as a dip, as a spread, and as a condiment.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

16 ounces (2 cups) of thick Greek yogurt
4 to 10 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1/2 cup of diced or grated cucumber (Kirby or "English")
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
Preparation:

Prepare all ingredients in advance. Combine oil and lemon juice in a medium mixing bowl. Fold the yogurt in slowly, making sure it mixes completely with the oil. Add the garlic, according to taste, and the cucumber. Stir until evenly distributed. Garnish with a bit of green and serve well chilled.

Yield: about 2 1/2 cups

Add mint or dill: Slight variations include 1-2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh dill and/or fresh mint.

Mad for Moncler...A Guide to the Cult-Classic Gestappo-esque Outerwear

Last winter after the purchase of my 5th Moncler must-have puffer jacket , I swore up & down I was DONE with the goose-down filled coats. I had enough. My closet was over-flowing with Moncler's in multiple colors. It got to the point I was matching my Birkins to the lil bastards- Red, Blue, Black and yes that perfect Hermes saddle-brown. I was changing bags and coats quicker than the Dow was falling!
I still love my mini-Moncler majesty and look forward to whipping out the suckers this winter season, but I just ask myself, how many of the same make jackets can one posses?
For those of you who are familiar with Moncler you may understand my obsession! For those of you who aren't let me explain. Moncler makes the sexiest, most stylish, uber-chic and fabulous coats, puffers and jackets for the freezing winter weather. In the years of past, staying warm meant looking not-so-fab but more freakish. Burying yourself in North Face puffers with your head peering out the top, at best you looked like the Michelin-Man or that big Marshmallow dude at the end of Ghostbusters. Warm? Yes. Cozy? Yes. Sexy? HELL NO! Moncler has taken freezing into fabulous and I just can't seem to get enough. There's something almost CULT-like in spotting that little round Moncler emblem on the left upper portion of the left puffer sleeve. I've watched over the years as Moncler went from the In-The-Knows to the KNOW EVERYBODY! In my wonderful neighborhood of Stepford wives or what I like to call "Attack of the CLONES" it’s almost impossible not to spot a girl (usually driving a Range Rover, wearing leggings and Uggs) driving down Central Ave with the (and I hate to say it but I can’t help but think it) Nazi-like Moncler emblem staring you right in the face thru the driver's side window. It's become somewhat of the Secret-Society-Symbol of being an "IT" girl, kinda like in Jr. High when the popular girls went to the bathroom and discussed what they were going to wear to school the next day and when we, I mean "they" ( i could never be so sneaky!) walked into homeroom perfectly coordinated the look of "How the HELL did they all know to wear that!!??" on the face of the OTHER girls gave us the superior feeling that IT girls just "KNEW" these things!
So this winter don't feel frazzled and confused like your jr. high days.. just get your Freezing-Freak-On with MONCLER!

I've been spraying Quelque Fleurs on myself since my pre & post puberty years, from back in my Brooklyn days to the Soccer-Mom in me of today.
My first shpritz of that heavenly scent was way back in High School.Flatbush High to be exact ,circa '92. Every Chuckie's-Shoe-Shopping , Porsche Hopping , Nylon Prada Tote Carrying diva was rocking Quelque Fleurs perfume back in the day.
I even remember buying the $300 bottle of floral bouquet body spray secretly from a RUSSIAN pharmacist on Kings Highway. The stuff was so hot and so difficult to find,we were secretly picking up the perfume from the black market , MAFIOSO style!
After sometime the scent had become a sure fire reminder of "MOI". Ex-boyfriends would say "Esther, I smelled YOU the other day in Soho" , Friends would walk by my table at a trendy restaurant and quickly turn around to exclaim "Esther , I knew it was you!, who can mistake that sexy scent"! I was flattered by all the Quelques Fleurs affiliation, HOWEVER i knew it was time for a change , a clue to pick a new perfume , y'know move the f*** on!
A characteristic I often tend to "DISLIKE" about a person and a quality I try to avoid within myself is when a person is painfully PREDICTABLE! There is nothing LESS fun or fabulous then being finger pointed. DIFFERENT is what I thrive for! SO with this as inspiration, the scent search began, and ohhhhh what a search it was,a perfume replacing adventure that has lasted a fe-kakta 10 years! Yup , it took me 10 years to finally find a perfume fabulous enough for me to shelve my Quelques Fleurs.
Let me introduce to you what the ISRAELI-SOCIETY SET has secretly known for years,LORENZO VILLORESI FIRENZE! A scent so sexy, sweet and delicious I haven't looked at my "old" perfume since VILLORESI sashayed across my skin. The notes of the scent immediately bring the soft smell of BABY POWDER to mind...its just amazing!
I picked up my bottle of LORENZO VILLORESI FIRENZE at the famous SEA & SUN of Tel-Aviv. I recently rented a villa there for my Summer Holiday and while casually shopping at their in-house fashion boutique YAFFA ROSS , I finally found my new treasure.
Yaffa is the ONE & ONLY distributor of the ITALIAN MADE perfume in ISRAEL . I witnessed with my own eyes as woman from all over the world called her CONSTANTLY for the very hard to find scent.
This frenzy for FIRENZE prompted me to ask her WHY it was so special and why it was so difficult to distribute? While puffing on what seemed to me as an entire pack of slim-cigarettes while surrounded in a sea of photo's of herself with her tanned arms wrapped around the shoulder's of local and world famous celebs shopping at her boutique, Yaffa went on to explain that the perfume had so many flower notes and scents that is was IMPOSSIBLE to ship anywhere else because the bottle would not only dis-color but lose it's smell as well. The story sounded a lil SUSPICIOUS to me , but what the hell..I was SOLD! I do sometimes miss my signature scent , but I'm definitely loving my LORENZO!!

The DITZY DIVA DON'TS of Mountain Biking and Mountain Climbing in the MIDDLE EAST!

After 2 gorgeous sun-filled magnificent days bumming out on the Mediterranean shores of Tel-Aviv , my McGyver Man and myself both agreed it was time to get off our bum's and get moving!
We packed ourselves up , rented a Mercedes and headed North to Mount Carmel in Haifa. Two hours later , we found ourselves in the famous uber-fabulous, SPA FINDER magazines TOP TEN spa in the Middle East,The Carmel Forest Spa & Resort. After settling in and feasting on the FAT BUSTING buffet , we both agreed it was time to get physical.
The SPA offered us complimentary bikes and detailed maps of both bicycle trail and hiking excursions around the HAIFA Hill's.

Here's my personnel of list of my DUMB DIVA DONT'S of hiking and biking in the mountains of the MIDDLE-EAST!!!

1. DON'T go biking before the break of dawn! You will suffer immensely under the Mediterranean sun (as we did!)

2. DON'T only bring the two complimentary mini-mayim bottles of the Nevia water supplied by the hotel staff! ..You will run out of H20 quickly and develop a severe case of dehydration and a sinus splitting case of severe SUN STROKE! (TORTURRRRE)

3. DON'T be so cocky & confident to decide that the MAP TRAIL given to you by the hotel guide guy is simply too SIMPLE and choose to skip the specifics of the trail. Then "secretly" slip away on your own. You will end up sweating your ass off shlepping your bike back up the steep hill that seemed so much fun going down! BAD IDEA!! trussssst me!

4. DON'T head out on a hike alone late in the day...Once the HAIFA sun sets you will become a Coyote's sumptuous main course or a Jackal's shish-kebob!

5. FINALLY and most importantly...When heading out on a hike , bring water and lot's of it! Unlike me, the only source of hydrating juice was PEACH NECTAR and GREY GOOSE!! NOT a good idea when heading off on a uphill hike!

Thankfully we survived !

GUCCI in the LI'L GIRL'S ROOM...Fabulous or Fashion Faux Pas?

When you think of the uber-fabulous logo crazed nouveau-riche Gucci label many things come to mind. GG printed pumps , Gucci logo infested luggage ,wallets , sunglasses , scarves and logo dripping goodies. The last thing you would think of is, the 'LADIES ROOM"! as in the toilette , powder room , Lil girl's room and the "I need to re-apply my MAC lip gloss so I'll make believe I have to make" room.

Although Gucci has earned a worldwide respectable status in the world of pret-a-porte , it has also secretly graced the walls of potty pit-stops !

Years ago I came across a LIMITED EDITION release of GUCCI wallpaper, at the time I was a baby bride and years away from decorating my bachelorette pad. I passed on the wallpaper much to my regret! For years I obsessed , dreamt , googled and e-bayed that one-of-a-kind wall-covering.

Years later while on a mother-daughter-sister trip to PARIS, I passed the Gucci boutique on Rue St. Honore. Low and behold , in the window were 3 rolls of the last limited luxurious over the top Gucci logo-ed wallpaper. I ran into the store , scooped up the last of their inventory and proudly flew them back to NY via Concorde . It took 4 years before I found the the perfect four walls to feature my find.

So now when you come to my casa, you will find your fanny sitting pretty in my foyer bathroom engulfed in fabulous GUCCI!

ast week was a fun filled, true Summer in NYC week for me. I spent nearly every evening out celebrating something. Besides my sister and brother’s birthday at Mr West, a couple of my other highlights were Mel Debarge’s birthday at Hotel Rivington w/ a performance by Ryan Leslie and Ron Brownz, PLUS The Microphone Fiend himself, RAKIM put on a show at Highline Ballroom. Though I’ve seen him a few times before, each time, especially when he does “Know the Ledge”, gets me hyped. U-God opened the show and Ricky Ross made a surprise appearance.

“Cause I get loose and I got troops… and crazy JUICE!”

Saturday, I found myself at a cookout in Long Island. The house look like something on MTV Cribs. Took a trip to the bathroom and…say word, the wall paper is GUCCI. I had to share.

When you think about symbols and customs that are known to protect you from jealous hater's..or for PC purpose's "the evil-eye'", the last thing that comes to mind is the heavy metal migraine-music rock band, THE BLACK SABBATH! As in the bat biting , Osbourne loving , head ball banging ,Satan singing group! I'm sure many of you are familiar with the infamous rock salute of the "horned hands". The "horned hand" gesture has become the universal Nazi-like salute at every rock concert and metal-head greeting. The History & Fierce Fashionista Facts of the Evil-Eye

The dreaded "Evil-Eye"...oh how I despise those evil pupil-cornea spell-casters we call EYES!! The Brown eyed ones ,the Blue eyed ones the Green & Hazel eyed ones. The set that are secretly disguised behind a pair of Ray-Ban wayfarer's shades , Dior wrap sunglasses or Chanel tinted aviators , the kind that peep securely through prescription eye glasses and the set that lay comfortably nestled under a pair of contact len's , don't be fooled Lasik surgery eyes are just as guilty ! No matter how you see it , and regardless of where they're peering out from, the EVIL EYE is one of the most popular and intensely believed superstitions around the WORLD.
People from all over fear these fierce pair of pupils and I'm warning you now , be wary of the frien-emy's , they may have them too. I call these dear friends of yours "frien-my's" because don't be fooled , the curse of the evil-eye can be stared upon you from both your friends, your enemies and those who come across as friends , but is truthfully an enemy in disguise (a disguise usually borrowed from your closet and never returned ..(can somebody say "userrrrr").
The concept of the evil-eyes is recognized by all different kinds of people stemming from a melting pot of all race's and religions.
From the Hasidim in striemels to the Burkha babes in Jordan , from the Arabs in the Middle East straight to the Supermodels in Midtown Manhattan ,spanning the beaches of Albania directly to the boogy-down Bronx ,all the way from the South America sea's to the shore's of South Beach. The Greeks believe in it ,as do the Turks . Amazingly the Jew's and Muslim's BOTH hold by it! Apparently all these different countries , nations and religious affiliation's can't agree on anything , but the one thing that seems to be harmonious amongst the hate is THE CURSE of the EVIL EYE...and for the few genuine "I'm truly happy for you" types of people who don't have a jealous un-lasered hair on their body and sincerely don't know what the "curse" actually is , let me break it down for you.
Basically it's when you are so DAMN FABULOUS that another person is so overwhelmed with ENVY of you they simply can't control the jealous hater-ism within them. Therefore (often unwillingly) this person thinks or wishes bad upon you (what a bitch, i know!) .
Let me illustrate, Has anyone ever said to you "Wow , I just LOVE your Chanel bag" only for you to walk away from the complimenting companion when suddenly a few sashays from your friend, SNAP! the strap breaks off ! Or for example, Has anyone ever say to you "OMG I can't stop staring at your shoes, are those the new Limited Edition Louboutin's that I was wait-listed for at Barney's, Only to have waited in VAIN for KARIM to call? " you enthusiastically respond "Yup these are THE one's ! " you walk away proud of your new red soled stilettos , when just moments later while strutting your stuff in Soho, you SUDDENLY stumble, slingback first into a pothole , leaving your Limited-Louboutin 6inch heel broken in half and you left wobbling home! Lastly,While out with some friends having a romantic couples dinner , has your girlfriend ever innocently whispered into your ear "Honey you are like the luckiest girl ever, your boyfriend is not only HOT he's SWEET too"...then to your surprise your "hot & sweet" boyfriend dumps you the next day ? (that last episode has never actually happened to me of course, just trying to be broad with my examples. lol!)
Those "coincidental" incidents i just described to you are just a few eye-opener's of how a spell can be casted by the bearer of an evil-eye !
By now your most likely pishing in your La Perla's while frantically deleting half your facebook friends while simultaneously blocking most of your bbm contacts ! WAIT! before you start going on a delete-a-thon , there are ways for you to PROTECT YOURSELF from the eyes of the evil-wishers. Different cultures have their own very symbolic charms they wear around their necks , dangle from tree's , hang in their homes and wrap around their wrists. My personal favorite all time people protector is the HAMSA and the more popular charm known as the NAZAR. The Hamsa originates from the holy land of ISRAEL and is the shape of a hand with an eye in the center , the nazar originated in TURKEY and is a charm that looks like an actual eye. I never leave home without them, and I mean NEVER! At any given moment, day or night, shopping,sleeping , bathing or being my fabulous jet-setting self , i am adorned by at least three evil eye charm bracelets , and a hamsa dangled from my neck , nestled between my bronzed decolletage.

This one's for all you *Kosher Kids out there....
I'm talking ANY type of kosher...the "I only eat DAIRY out" kinda kosher...the "I only eat SUSHI out" kinda kosher .... the "I only eat at NOBU but not BOND ST. strictly on Saturday nights" kinda kosher and if you ever had a parent throw out one those yummy marshmallow cereal's you snuck home (I think my dad tossed in the trash enough Count Chocula & Lucky Charms cereal to feed an entire small village in Africa) then THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!
I was doing my weekly neighborhood O-U shopping , when I came across KOSHER BEEF JERKY! To some it's no big deal , maybe biting into a Slim-Jim was never something your Jewish lips ever craved, but for other's like my 7 yr old Yeshiva *Bachor Boy , it was FASCINATING!! When I showed him my new purchase he went ballistic !! "Mom , that's the stuff they sell at the gas station that the *goyim eat!! it's really kosher??" he asked with both curiosity and disbelief! He grabbed the baggie, made his ritual *bracha and bit right in...his toothless smiling beaming & grinning from Slim-Jim to Slim-Jim!

I am deeply saddened yet happy to inform all those who desperately NEED to know, HERVE LEGER is DEAD. Official Time of Death: SUMMER 2009.
The few real fashionista's may have seen it coming , but to those who didn't I'm sorry to inform you of his timely passing.
Some of you may remember him from the early 90's during his first rise to fame. Dressing the original supermodels we've grown to love (and hate), Naomi, Kate, Christy, Linda and Cindy. ...And their red carpet predecessor's of the "new millennium", Lindsay, Rhianna, Hillary, Kim (as in Kardashian) and the entire Gossip Girl cast. He has wrapped his infamous bandage dress around bodies we adore . We have spent hours in the gym doing countless squats and torturous crunches just to fit into one, & after all that hard work it's hard for me to say and do, but girls it's time to HANG UP YOUR HERVE ! Plastic wrap that baby for your baby girl , put the damn thing in storage if you have to , just please don't wear it out!! I love Herve's, in fact I remember clearly each moment I've brought one of my many mummy dresses home. Bottom line...The Hampton's are great! to all those people (and you know who you are) who go around saying "the Hampton's suck" ...."the Hampton's is soooo played out" and the classic..."why would I want to go to the Hampton's, it's ALL the same people from the city anyway"! are usually the HATER's that just don't have a PLACE to stay in the Hampton's. Rather then admit they're Hampton Homeless-ness they go on ridiculous anti-Hampton tirades that just scream Hampton haterrrrr! I'll openly tell you , I've been there , back in the day before I became a house-sharer and before I actually knew anyone that owned a Hampton's summer McMansion , I too was stuck in the hot humid city forced to check into some random Hilton shlepping my Gourmet Glatt bags embarrassingly thru the lobby..oh yeh that's way better then frolicking poolside with your nearest and dearest friends , sipping Sangria from sunrise to sunset , house hopping from BBQ to BBQ, sashaying from one Intermix to another , eating & drinking great food all while people and celeb watching at fabulous cafes and restaurants.
The Hampton's is NOT about hitting the Long Island outpost of your favorite NYC hot spot (hence PinkElephant Southampton which OFFICIALLY is OFF my list after allowing that bloated ,baby-daddy mess Jon Gosselin in to the club uchhhhh!) . The Hampton's are about FRIEND's...old one's , new one's and the one's that just end up on your facebook Monday morning after a killer Hampton weekend. So to all the Hampton lover's (like myself) and to the hater's here are a few of my favorite Summer 2009 spots...TRATA , by far the best food i've had in awhile , it's Greek and its Great! Amazing ambiance,a super DJ and live drummer topped by food that is orgasmic !! What more could you ask for in a dining experience? Next is, GEORGICA . A restaurant and party madhouse...excellent food and our weekly table at the back of the club , sandwiched between Eugene and Matt's , filled with models , actors and gold-diggers galore, it's a guaranteed crazy night out! and finally Sunday's on SUNSET BEACH, speechless ! What true summer memories are made of!

Over the weekend one of my really close girl friend's tells me she's heading to LA for a week trip, she'll be attending fabulous events galore, celebrity filled bashes , parties and openings. At first I'm totally happy for her , sounds like a super exciting trip straight out of an US Weekly mag edition. We start discussing outfits , which Louboutin's to pack and how many clutches she really needs for 7 days , all's going well....UNTIL!!
My dear friend decides to tell me , she's also going to snag herself a hubby , aka baby daddy, aka a BALLER! Sounds like quite a mission, one I'm sure she'll gracefully pull off...the only problem is, girlfriend is over 30 and a BOTOX VIRGIN! I immediately told her the only thing she's "snagging" with those lines and wrinkles is her black opaque leggings , NOT a hubby with a multi-million dollar 3 yr NBA contract...its time for botox biatch! So off to DR. ABITTAN we went , where here smeared , poked , stabbed , injected and iced my friends face back 10 YEARS!!! she left looking a decade younger , a whole lot sexier BUT $1900.00 lighter! ( with her new baller baby daddy boyfriend..that shouldn't be a problem much sooner!)

Ok , we all know that the recession is a BITCH! But let's look at the bright side for a minute, the recession can also be your new BFF! Ok I admit it..I have a jew-fro! there I said it! Since I was a kid I have been straightening, blowing , conditioning, oil treatmenting , Brazilian keratining and using every anti-frizz product known to man..or shall I say woman, It has not been a fun road traveled, but definitely ... a successful one. Through trial and lot's of error I am willing to share with you my secret..OLLIES! Located in Kew Gardens, Queens..in the basement of the Paris Salon , Betty has been straightening my kinky locks for almost 20 years. The few times I've strayed in effort to get my mane silkened at a fancier more exclusive city salon I've left practically in tears, $500 bux lighter and just as kinky as when I walked in. OLLIES is not only the cheapest solution, but the quickest, and take my word for it CHEAPEST way to silky smooth hair. The story is fascinating , they use a formula passed on only once and no matter how many times I ask..Betty refuses to reveal to me the secret ingredients, I've given up asking for the miracle recipe but continue to make the once every 6 week trip to the Queens salon that has brought me years of frizz free jew-fro locks.
